Dr. Sampath Gnanarathne MBBS, MD, FRCOG (UK), is a Senior Lecturer in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Peradeniya, and serves as an Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Teaching Hospital Peradeniya. He is also a Visiting Lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka, the Faculty of Medicine and Allied Sciences, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka, and the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, University of Peradeniya.
He is a leading laparoscopic surgeon with a formal fellowship in laparoscopic surgery from Germany, India and has played a key role in advancing minimally invasive gynaecological practice in Sri Lanka. His main research interests include gynaecological laparoscopic surgery, enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS), and fetal ultrasonography. Dr. Gnanarathne is also an experienced trainer in laparoscopic surgery, with a strong focus on hands-on skills development and structured training programs. He has published widely in the fields of laparoscopy and ERAS, contributing to both clinical practice and academic advancement.
